Windows XP Instalation
Oct 12th, 2004 at 2:26am

I have this windows Xp pro installation cd from 2 years age. It is a corp edition that doesnt need activation. So far everytime I wanted to install the windows all I needed to do was put in the cd and boot from it and that was it. Today I got my first pentium 4 system, a d630 HP. Installation is ok till it gets to instaalling devices. Suddenly the system gets extremely slow and then halts all together. Any pointers whats wrong? can it be my windows CD that is not compatible with P4 or the system devices in this computer? Please help.

Can you still install Windows on another PC? In other words is the CD still good, not corrupted? Do you have a back-up of the disc?

Are you allowing the option to upgrade online during the install? If so, don't do that? If not, try enabling it.

Is it possible to copy the contents of the CD to disk and install from there?

Sounds like a conflict with one of the devices. Can you try removing all unnecessary devices during the install? For example, you don't need a sound card to install windows.
