From Lockergnome link
"Personally, I won't touch version 9.0 again. It's a pain, and others in this forum will agree. It's been nothing but a headache for everyone I know who has used it."

When someone does
this
with Ghost 9.0, then I might listen.

Ghost 9.0 is “a headache for everyone I know who has used it’? Note that PC Magazine selected Ghost 9.0 as its “Editor’s Choice“ for image backup software (
http://www.pcmag.com/article2/0,1759,1644439,00.asp).
; Have you actually used Ghost 9.0, or are you comments based on the opinions of others?
I have no personal financial interest in whether or not Symantec sells copies of Ghost 9.0, but nonetheless – out of curiosity – my question remains: What’s not to like about Ghost 9.0? It’s difficult for me to believe that an objective individual would choose Ghost 2003 over Ghost 9.0. Whether that perspective is accurate or not is, of course, irrelevant – since Ghost 2003 is a legacy application that will continue to deteriorate over time.
In my opinion, the ‘case study’ for Ghost 2003 referenced by El Pescador is interesting, but hardly representative of the requirements of the target audience for the product.

Ghost 2003 was and is still a decent product and for a lot of users it will be around for awhile. It has saved my tail end a few times.
Ghost 9 is not a bad product. I've done some backups but I haven't had to use it to restore anything yet. Like any new product there are growing pains. And it is not like all those backups performed with Ghost 2003 aren't any good as it does present the options to retore from those images too.
The only thing I don't like with Ghost 9 is when I back up a partition from the WinXP environment my PC gets "I/0 Bound" and as a result some system slowing. I back up partitions from my IDE HDD's and write them to my USB 2.0 hard drive and the HDD leds are solid. In the end this is probably no big deal because when running Ghost 2003 in PC DOS you don't have any access to your PC anyways.

Good day. I'm having second thoughts on what to buy. I'm choosing between Norton Ghost 9 or R-Drive. I've seen R-Drive on a web when have a trial version. Please extend a hand. What I really need is something that can support or do a cloning with an external USB drive.
Thanks a lot.

I have used Norton Ghost 2003 for such a task on several occasions. While I do recommend it very highly, be advised that hardware-related USB host/device controller glitches sometimes arise that must be squared away.
