Ghost vs Others &  Making a v2003 CD Boot
May 7th, 2005 at 10:41pm

Firstly a  friend suggested that G4U, LVU is a much better imaging software than Ghost.....need comments.

Secondaly I have both Ghost 9.0 & v 2003 Cds, but only 9 is bootable one.

How exactly can I make v2003 cd bootable too, I am not pointing on how to make a bootable floppy/ cd from it, but want to make the whole 2003 Cd bootable as is Ghost 9 cd.

Cmpared the files of both the only different / extra file in ghost 9 is a WINBOM, 167 bytes, cofig settings file.

Can I add this to v2003 & tha burn it to make it bootable? or any other tried tested  suggestions?

Regards.

Firstly, what is G4U, LVU?

And secondly, did your friend mention any REASONS why they prefer G4U? Have they usd Ghost? If so, which version?

Most people that prefer imaging prgms other than Ghost cite "user-friendliness" as a top reason. Folks who prefer Ghost typically cite "reliability" as top reason. So it depends on what you're looking for in an imaging program.

It's just like buying a car. Do you want great gas-milage? .. or to go off-roading? Or something that goes FAST? .. like a Porsche. Or to haul around a bunch of kids. It depends what your priorities are. All vehicles will get you from point A to point B. All imaging prgms will create & restore images.

Personally, I want the MOST RELIABLE imaging program I can find. And I feel comfortable I can figure out how to USE it if it's not the most user-friendly.

Admittedly, Ghost is not the most user-friendly imaging prgm, but I have created hundreds of images and restored dozens, without a single problem. Not one. That's what I call RELIABILITY.

The question isn't so much WHICH imaging prgm to use, but rather that people use *some* imaging prgm .. which is far better than using none.

Regarding your bootable CD question, maybe this link will help:

G4U is a freeware, while its LVM which stand for Logical Volume Manager.

I know both are Unix based BUT work for windows too.

Want your comments comapring them with Ghost.

Haven't tried them but are real professional stuff.
