Ghost 7.5 write speeds
May 17th, 2005 at 3:57pm

Anyone know how to increase the write speed of Ghost? I can't figure out the correct combination of switches to get a decent thruput. Currently, we have 7.5 and 8.2 versions of Ghost, although our fully licensed version is 7.5.

I am trying to create an image of a Dell Latitude D610 writing to an internal media bay device. When I start Ghost, the transfer rate increases to about 150 MB/minute through 30 seconds and then starts to fall off. At 1 minute, I am down to 130 MB/minute. By 10 minutes into a 4.5 GB image, the transfer rate is down to 80 MB/minute. This is so painful, especially with all of the testing I need to do.

Eventually, this will be an image that will be deployed to our sales force via DVD with some nifty scripts to automate setup and application installation. However, if it continues to take over an hour to just drop the image, they're not going to be too happy.

Any and all help appreciated!

Eric

Keslaa

What are detailed specifications of "internal media bay device"?

Fujitsu MHT2040AH; Ultra ATA/100 (ATA-6) interface

Basically, another hard drive for the D610.

Looks like this is a 40 GB unit designed for notebook computers, and fits in the 'Modular Bay'--correct?

From a website:

Quote:
Specifications:

Mfr Part Number: MHT2040AH
Formatted capacity: 40.0 GB
Rotational speed (RPM): 5400
Interface Ultra ATA/100
Buffer size: 8 MB

If this is the correct HDD--not the fastest, but seems like performance should be better than what you state--how fast is the CPU?

May be limited by the hardware rather than a software setting or 'switch'.

No question is stupid...but, possibly the answers are  Wink !

That's the model of modular bay drive.

It's got a pentium M chip, 1.6 GHz, with 533 mHz front side bus and 2 MB L2 cache. You're right that it should be faster than what I'm getting. Reading the transfer rates that some other people are getting is making me jealous...
