Cooling Rad's Black Beast 2006
Nov 1st, 2005 at 12:27pm

I have finally started purchasing the parts to make a BLACK BEAST 2006.  But from reading, it appears that the dual core CPU's run a tad bit on the warmish side  Shocked  So, my question is, does anybody have any ideas for cooling the inner beast?

I will be using the Lan Li PC-V1100B Plus case.  With the placement of the CPU on the P5LD2 motherboard, it does not appear the Zalman 775 (I love the looks of Zalman) coolers will have enough clearance, unless you look at the CNPS 9500, which appears to be very noisy.  Right now, I am looking at the Scythe SCNJ-1000 Ninja with a 120 mm cooling fan, but I am open to suggestions.  Oh yeah, I will not be overclocking the CPU.

Thanks for any suggestions.

You could try asking over at Asus Boards forums:

http://www.abxzone.com/forums/forumdisplay.php?f=36

They might have some experience.

I would try running stock first. That wouild give you numbers to compare with.

Zalman is the name I keep hearing regarding after-market cooling.

They have to be installed properly, with the right amount of paste, etc. I've seen CPUs run hotter after folks did it wrong.

I'm jealous.

I will be finishing up that thing shortly.

That case is beautiful. The whole system will be very nice.

Overclockable from what I hear.

I'm researching more overclockable RAM, so hold off on that.

Seems, if you plan to over-clock, then you get one type of RAM, if not, then low-latency stuff is best.

Thermaltake is my favorite name in after-market cooling.

Also, if you are interested in extreme cooling, I have a guide on water cooling your CPU.  Better cooling with less noise.  Almost a must for people overclocking the hot CPU's that are starting to hit the market.

Okay. I just entered two difference memory modules:

http://radified.com/computer/computer_2006.htm

the first for if you DON'T plan to overclock, and second if you do.
