NortonGhost and disk encryption software?
Feb 26th, 2006 at 3:06pm

Does someone have any experience with getting Norton Ghost to work with disk encryption software (specifically Pointsec).
Pointsec will be installed on all our machines at work and I am fearing that it will curtail my ability to make images of my boot partition.

I am currently using Norton Ghost 2003.
Any information would help.
Thanks

I do not have personal experience with encryption software and Ghost--but a previous poster was having problems--it turned out that the encryption software installs part of it's program in the unused part of the boot sector--Ghost 2003 only copies the first part of the boot sector rather than the whole boot sector to save space in the image size.

You can force Ghost 2003 to save the entire boot sector with a command line switch:

ghost.exe /ib

/ib =
image
whole
boot
sector

Should set up a test machine and test the procedure with the software installed.

It would be great to have you report back with the results for the education of all here!

No question is stupid...but, possibly the answers are  Wink !
