Black Beast WinXP and Sata Drive installation?
Feb 26th, 2006 at 7:26pm

I cannot get Win XP to recognise my WD740 as Primary drive
even though it boots and works.

Asus P5ld2 deluxe WiFi
WD74 sata in Red Sata 1
Seagate 160 sata in Black sata 3
Plextor DVDrW SAta 716 in black sata 4
Intel 920
2 gig memory

Shows my harddrives as Third IDE Master for WD74
Third Ide Slave for Seagate
Fourth IDE slave for Plextor

Tried the F6 and s32bit SATA -Silicon Image SiI 3132 Serial ATA Driver V1.0.0.9 for XP/2K/2003.

from Asus site. NO CHANGE!

in the mobo bios, there should be a settings which allows you to select the drive as the primary boot drive.

It is there - keep looking.  I have the P5ld2 and I had to choose.

If I could get to that computer, I would attempt to be a little more help.

Sorryl

Sorry Guy's.
I did not explain myself clearly.

Yes I have the WD740 as the primary boot drive. And there is a place in the Bios to do that.

My question is that why does the WD 740 show up as the THIRD IDE Master?

And my Seagate 160 shows up as Third IDE Slave?

And my Plextor 716 Sata DvdRW as Fourth IDE Slave?

I have no IDE PATA drives in my computer.

Likewise, why is my 120GB Maxtor SATA HDD MASTER categorized in the Device Manager of my Dell Dimension 8100 as a
Maxtor 6 B120M0 SCSI Disk Device
?

An Asus Rep. emailed me this response.

"Your SATA items will show up in the BIOS as your 3rd and 4th ID! E drives on the Intel controller."

WHY did they not put that in the manual or on their Web site?

Another problem with this board if you use a PentiumD 920 is that the BIOS does not recognise it. No BEEPs nothing.

One has to "borrow" an older CPU, put it in, flash the Bios with an up[date, then remove the chip and put in the 920.

Again no mention of this by Asus anywhere.

Rad you may want to include this in the Blackbeast CPU writeup.
