ghost 9 dvd burn time excessive

I am using ghost 9, and was doing a full drive backup of my c:\ drive (windows xp and a few programs on it) and partition d:\ (all my programs).
burning these to each a separate dvr+rw.
I have two physical 80gb drives. drv. 1 is c:\, d:\, and e:\ (e:\ being personal data etc),,, drv.2 is f:\{page file}, g:\(dos programs}, h:\more {important data},and I:\ (used for video editing} My dvd drive is a 4x hp 300i
just giving you the set up...
So i burned c:\ to a dvd (4.7gb of data but with compression, it fits...) total burn time with validation 45 mins.
Then i burned d:\ to its dvd (2.5 gb worth of data) but what i can't figure out is this ,, the burn with validation took 8 1/2 hours!!!!!!!
Why would this be????????? my only uneducated clue is it because that is where ghost is installed and running from??
Have you ever heard of such a long burn time?
I also save an image of c:\ and d:\ on drv2 I:\ and they only take about 20 mins to back up to there.

Bruce,
45 minutes sounds OK. Over 8 hours is unacceptable. And for a smaller image. Most of us avoid imaging direct to DVDs as it's so slow. The faster way is to image to another HD partition and then burn the image with Nero etc.

Bruce, the recommendation by Brian is the preferred solution. You can, however, also instruct Ghost 9 to write the image file to the same drive that is being backed-up, burn the image files to optical media, and then delete the image file (otherwise it will be included in the subsequent image operations, exponentially increasing the size of each new image).
