I'm sorry, I wasn't clear.  My second disk is the extrenal usb hard drive.  It doesn't come up under status

The Disk 1 has two partitions.

Part 1 is labeled primary, and clearly has all my stuff
Part 2 is also labeled primary, and has A, for active I assume, and has hardly anything in it.  I guess the problem is making partitiion 1 active.  Sorry for the miscommunication.

Actually, after I thought about it for a while, I began to realize you had not answered what you get with:

gdisk 1 /status

Should have been:

Disk           Partitions
 1                     2

Your additional post has cleared that up.

You need to specify the *partition #* on disk #1 in the gdisk command line:

gdisk 1 /-act /p:2        (to de-active partition #2)

gdisk 1 /hide /p:2        (to hide partition #2)

gdisk 1 /act /p:1          (to make active partition #1)

gdisk 1 /status             (to verify the changes)

Now re-boot!

Back thanks much.  What can I do for you, you've been incredible?

I assume I shouldn't try cloning again.

Good--glad I could help!  I've seen many reports over the last two years of folks giving up in frustration and re-partitioning and reformatting their HDD's and loosing all their data--glad you hung-in there as we worked through the steps.

Well--not from the Windows Ghost GUI at least--looks like you have a in-compatibility with the Ghost *virtual partition*!

You can probably create a DOS Ghost boot floppy with USB DOS HDD support using the Ghost Boot Wizard--and most likely it will work fine in DOS booted from that floppy.  You can then save Ghost image files to your USB HDD just fine!

For some, there can be compatibility issues with DOS Ghost and USB HDD, especially enclosure type setups--but bring those issues back here and we may be able to help with that as well.

You should be able to use Win2k Disk Management to delete that now hidden partition--or you could boot to Ghost's installation CD again and use *gdisk*:

gdisk 1 /del /p:2

But--no harm leaving it there unless you need the partition slot in the Master Boot Record.

Take care.
