HD Upgrade / GHOST / WinXP won't start

Hi everybody,
I have a 250 gig drive as my system drive. One giant partition. It's full, so I went out and got a 400 gig drive. I used the DISK TO DISK clone option in Ghost 8 (because for some reason Ghost 2003 won't start - It freezes on the initial screen). The disk cloned, I can browse both disks when using BartPE.
However, when I try to boot off the new drive, the boot process goes fine (so I know the MBR and boot sectors are okay), but the WinXP logo (with the moving blue bar at the bottom) goes for like 20 minutes, and then the system hangs on the Welcome screen, just before displaying the usernames. Ctrl-Alt-Delete has no effect.
Has anyone else had this problem?
Thanks in advance!

I forgot to mention...
I already tried the fdisk /mbr trick and the old hard drive was not in the system when I attempted to boot.

Just to be clear--you are booting to DOS Ghost 8.xx to perform the *disk-to-disk* cloning--correct?
When you're done cloning, you remove your original HDD from the system, and hook up the new HDD to same HDD connector that was attached to the old HDD--correct?
If you have both Ghost 2003 and Ghost 8.xx, you should have the DOS partitioning utility by Symantec called *gdisk* (there's also *gdisk32*, but that only runs under the Windows OS--so not that one!) *gdisk* is under the *Support* sub-directory on the Ghost 2003 installation CD--or if installed on the Windows system--it's in the Norton Ghost sub-directory.
Put *gdisk* on a DOS boot floppy, or boot to the DOS A:\ prompt from the Ghost 2003 installation CD, switch to the *Support* sub-directory, and run *gdisk* with the following command line:
gdisk 1 /status (and press *enter*)
Record the results.
Place the other HDD on the system. Repeat the above and record the results.
How do they compare? Same, or different?

DJ,
Your problem is similar but not exactly the same as situations I created last week.

fdisk /mbr worked everytime for me but unfortunately not for you. While we are still scratching our heads, could you try Clear Sig from BootIt NG.

Out of interest, did you clone into a partition on your 400 GB HD or into Unallocated Space? Did you run Ghost 8 from BartPE?
