Ghost 8 (2003)
Jun 18th, 2006 at 5:35pm

I've just changed from Ghost (2002) to Ghost 8 (2003) because it can handle NTFS partitions and large image sizes better. The old ghost just created one file -- .gho -- but I've just noticed that Ghost 8 creates a .gho file and (in my case) 3 .ghs files.  If I want to clone the image back do I just choose the .gho file -- and does it grab these other files -- or what?

Yes!  And yes!

Maximum image size will be approx. 2 GB--a DOS file size limit.

I keep my Ghost *image file sets* that belong together in a separate subdirectory so there is no chance of similarly named files overwriting already existing files.

I use the day-month as the subdirectory for an image + the Ghost image file names:

So for today, the image subdirectory would be:

0618

and the Ghost image file name would be:

0618.gho

and the spanned Ghost image file names would be:

06180001.ghs
06180002.ghs
06180003.ghs

FWIW:  Latest Ghost build 8.3.0.1331 no longer has the DOS file size limitations and creates just a single .gho file when making image backups.  Use this version if you want to avoid the file size limitation...

Thanks Somms,

By the way, NightOwl did my first clone with 2003 and cloned it back for a test. Fantastic. Thanks again.
