Copying Ghost images to a Netware server
Jun 21st, 2006 at 4:02pm

We are using Ghost 7.0 and backup our images to a Netware server which then gets backed up to tape. When we copy the image back to disk, the image becomes unusable.  Ghost reports that it's not a valid ghost image.  Does anyone had this kind of problem?

Not too many folks here have *tape* backup as an option, so may not get too many responses.

Interesting, though, Ghost 2003 (almost same as Corporate Ghost 7.5), has switches for use with tape back up options--kinda funny that a restored image file from tape would corrupt the image.

You might want to look at the tape backup software for information on how it *re-processes* the data--are you using compression--that may change the internal file structure so it is not restored in an unaltered form from the tape.  Could try without compression.

Are you saving the image file to tape by itself--or as a larger backup of addition data--could try saving just the Ghost image file by itself--without compression--does that help?

There may be other settings in the tape backup software designed to help not corrupt files when they are backed up--look for such options.

For Ghost, type *ghost /?* at the DOS prompt to get a listing of switches available--any that pertain to tape backup of images?

Is the Ghost image file less than 2 GB's?

Is the tape backup software running in DOS?
