Eatapuck, are you saying that (1) the email files are absent within the recovery point (e.g., within C_Drive.v2i), or that (2) you think Ghost 10 deleted the email files while creating the recovery point?  (Both of these alternatives are extremely unlikely.)

What else might you have changed on the PC around the time that the recovery point was created?

Are you emails saved/stored on the ISP's server?

If you have not done so already, please look within the recovery point to see if the email files are there (see page 83+ in the Ghost 10.0 User's Guide).

I ghosted my hard drive and now i have lost all my e-mails.
i can't find them on either drive. i've looked at all the dbx files i can find and they are empty. plus i can't boot the old hard drive any more. Norton support is useless.
Please help

You must be using Outlook Express, right?  Mount your Ghost image backup with a drive letter.  Then use Start/search to search the drive letter for dbx.  Be sure you check the advanced options to search hidden and system files.

Hi there
and thanks for replying
let me start from the top i had an 80 gig HDD and installed a new 120 gig HDD. I used Norton Ghost 10 to Ghost the old drive to the new one.
i made the recovery disc. like it said. then i ghosted the drive.
when it was done it said it Completed Sucssefully.
the new drive is now the primary and i removed the old one.
when i booted the PC it would not start windows it just kept restarting. so i put the old one back in . well it would not boot up either. so i put the new back in as the primary and the old one as the slave.
the PC booted up ok .well i found the boot problem with the MBR file.
so then i opened outlook express and all my e-mails and folders we gone. ive searched both new and old HHD. with *.DBX and found all the dbx files. from both drives but they are empty. and all the folders i made in OE are not there either. i have tried a few recovery Programs for OE . and they will find the dbx files but they are empty.
Please Help

eatapuck,

Interesting problem, but we need a lot more information from you if we are to understand what happened.

Quote:
I used Norton Ghost 10 to Ghost the old drive to the new one.

Did you use Copy my Hard Drive (Advanced)?
Did you partition the 120 GB HD before running the Ghost procedure?
When using Ghost, did you assign a drive letter to the 120 GB HD?

Quote:
i made the recovery disc. like it said.

What Recovery disc is that?

Quote:
the new drive is now the primary and i removed the old one.

Could you confirm that you removed the 80 GB HD before booting the 120 GB HD for the first time?

Quote:
so i put the old one back in . well it would not boot up either.

Was the 80 GB HD the only HD installed?

At present you have both HDs installed with the 120 GB HD as Master. Is that correct?
In My Computer what is the drive letter of each partition? Do you have other partitions apart from the WinXP partitions?

Do you have a floppy drive?

hi
1) Yes i used  Copy my Hard Drive (Advanced)
2) no i did not partition the 120 GB HD before running the Ghost procedure
3)the recovery disc is used to help restore a recovery point.
but when i try it. it says i have no recover points to choose from.
4)i did not remove the 80 GB HD before booting the 120 GB HD for the first time. i did switch the 80 gig to a slave then started the pc first time with both installed.
5)before i started all this i had the 80gig HD and a 20Gig i used to store Photo's
6)as of right now both the 120 and 80 gig HD are installed .
the 120 is C: the 80 is D: there are no other partitions on either HD.

Thanks for the quick reply. You have made lots of mistakes but I don't blame you as the Ghost 10 userguide is very confusing and ambiguous in describing how to Copy Drives.

What I'd try initially is to reinstall your 80 GB HD as Master and remove the 120 GB HD. If the 80 GB HD doesn't boot, as it didn't before, then run fdisk /mbr from a Win98 boot floppy. You won't see anything happen after pressing Enter, it just goes back to the A: prompt. This clears the DiskID and hopefully will allow the OS to boot. Does it? More to come.

http://www.bootdisk.com/bootdisk.htm

Download the Win98 OEM

It's a self extracting file so double click and it will write to the floppy.

I've seen anecdotes of two Windows installations corrupting each other but otherwise "I know nothing".
