imaging windows and linux
Oct 31st, 2006 at 4:03pm

Hi

I want to image SUSE 10.1 and Windows Server 2003. I've read that I should be able to do that with Ghost 2003. On the internet, I found a website that sells Norton Ghost 9 with 2003. Is that solution the best way to go for what I'm trying to do? I don't need encryption in Norton Ghost 10.

thanks
Nick

What file system are you using in SUSE?  Norton Ghost supports ext2 and I think ext3.  It does not support RiserFS.  If you are using ext2, then any version of Ghost should do the trick.

I've found it is much easier to backup Linux by simply writing a cron job to tar and gzip the whole file system and scp it to a network server.  You might consider something like that.

I'll be using ext3 on the linux box and NTFS on the windows box. It's been a while since I've worked with linux but I've been tasked to set up 3 machines with MySQL, bugzilla and subversion. I just want to have an image to restore from just in case....

thanks
