Error updating NT registry.  Ghost 10.0
Nov 19th, 2006 at 2:37pm

The following thread:
Possible? Restore Ghost image away from orig. PC?
describes how I successfully Ghosted a drive outside of the machine it was in (an Asus) to a new Seagate drive.  When I dropped this Seagate into the Asus, it worked (booted normally).  I did this procedure because the original drive in the Asus was dying and because the Norton Recovery CD wouldn't boot on the Asus.

I then Ghosted (10.0) the new Asus / Seagate drive to an external Maxtor (just to be safe).

I got the following message.
Recovery point of C:\ comleted successfully.
Info 60BB0119" The operation, 'Copying volume data', completed successfully; however, there was an error while updating the NT registry updates.  Error EA9D0017: Unable to open the registry hive file.  Error EBAB03F1: The system cannot find the path specified.

Anyone know what this means?

David,

I assume the recovery point (backup image) verified OK. If you have enough space in the C: drive, could you try creating an image of the C: drive, writing the image to the C: drive. Delete the image when you are finished the test. If the image creates without that error then it suggests the problem is with the USB system.

Also, could you again "verify" the recovery point stored on the Maxtor external HD. Double click the .v2i file and click the Verify icon at the top of the Recovery Point Browser.
