Vista Boot Manager--Now It Begins!

Stumbled on this--looks like Vista will now have a *Boot Manager* and it looks like it will be *hidden*--perhaps in the boot tract (sectors 0 through 62):

Windows Vista no longer starts after you install an earlier version of the Windows operating system in a dual-boot configuration

Looks like it--just as with Win2k and WinXP--the article says to install the oldest Windows version first, from oldest to newest--and then each version will be modified by the newer boot sequence that is *backward* compatible.  If you install older Windows versions *after* Vista--their boot loader programs will not be *Vista aware* and will overwrite important component(s) of Vista's boot loader!

I wonder if third party boot managers will be able to handle multi-booting as before--now with Vista--hope Dan Goodell will have some input on his website when the time comes!

backwards compatible. most people will be installing vista *after* xp, so the scope of the problem should remain limited.

i always like to multiboot with an older, mature o/s, so if i run into probs with the new one, i can go back and use the older one, while i figure out what gives with the new one.

have you installed vista yet?

Grub installs on the MBR, so it might conflict.  I'm sure the Grub team will have a solution soon.

I gather BootIt NG can triple boot Vista, WinXP and Linux.
