Ghost 10: problem with Archive
Jan 6th, 2007 at 1:02am

Hi, when I wanna use the "Archive a recovery point", I put a blank DVD-RW disc into my CD-Drive ( E: ) then choosed the destination/location of the archive to the CD-Drive.

After I clicked OK, then the progress of archiving started. It was suprising me that the progress of archiving, only take times less than one minute with a popup "The C:\Program Files\Norton Ghost\Console... sucessfully created" and asking me to insert a new media.

So I ejected the already inserted disc and put a new DVD-RW disc. The progreess continued normally and again asking me again to insert a new media. I put the 1st CD but looks like the CD error/corrupted Sad . I've tried to format the disc again using Nero (full format) so many times but still nero cant format the disc. The format button is not alive with this disc.

Does it means that I've an error CD which is means need to be replaced?

rulirahm,

Ghost 10 writes to CD/DVD discs with packet writing and does its own formatting so you must start with an blank disc. I'd do a full erase (not quick) on your disc with Nero and try again. If that doesn't work try a DVD+RW disc. If that doesn't work join the club and accept that it doesn't work with your computer. I haven't tried Ghost 10/ DVD writing with my current computer but it didn't work with my previous computer.

Those here who use DVDs prefer writing the image direct to a hard drive partition in splits less than 4480 MB and then burn these splits to DVD discs with Nero or your favourite burning app. It's much faster and more reliable.

Sorry if this isn't what you wanted to hear.

How large is your C: drive and how much free space? Do you have other partitions or an external HD?

Here is the error tha I received:
EBAB0013
.

Thanks for the info.

But, if I repeated making an archive again using a new blank DVD-RW disc WITHOUT put the disc to the CD-Drive 1st, I think it work. I just don't have another disc to complete the making archive so I cancelled the job. But I can format this disc.

What if I bought a new disc (RW) then start the job again w/o inserting the disc 1st?

You mean that I store the archive to HDD 1st, then burn it to DVDs, right? Sorry, can't see ur post very detail because still busy with google to find the solution  Grin

BTW, I found an interesting story regarding to my problem: Norton Ghost 10.0 Computer Back-up and Recovery.

I've bought a new DVD-RW disc but not yet trying the job (w/o inserting the CD 1st).

Ok, I've made the archive to DVDs as suggested. Splitted to HDD 4480 MB.

But Nero asking me for my confirmation about UDF (because I was trying to burn a data more than 2GB). Is it gonna be a problem later in case I want to restore the archives from DVDs?

I choosed option to make the DVDs to be able to add data later. So, I can use unused space to store another data such as My Documents folder. Can I do that?

Rulirahm, after you take an existing Ghost recovery point, split it into DVD-sized segments, and burn them to DVD discs, it would be wise to boot into the recovery environment and run a verify operation on the recovery point stored on the DVD discs.  This is the only way that you will know for sure that Ghost will be able to access the recovery point, in the event that you eventually need to perform a restore.

I would recommend against storing anything other than the recovery point on the DVD discs, and also “finalizing” (“disc-at-once” mode) each DVD disc as it is created.  Doing so may minimize the likelihood of later problems by keeping things simpler.

Yes, you must choose UDF. No problems later.

Not really. There will only be 2 MB of space remaining on the DVD.
