Verifying that a Ghost 9 restore works fine

Just to be on the safe side I want to try and restore my drive image (from Ghost 9) into a different drive.
I'll disconnect the original drive (so I won't overwrite it by mistake) and only leave the backup drive where the drive image is at.
Will it cause any problems, like mixing the drive letters?
Will the letter of the original drive still be C: after I disconnect the drive that I restored to?
Thanks

this is a wise practice. but i've only done it with ghost 2003. let's wait to hear from some ghost 9 gurus.

Well, I tested the restore and I'm happy to say it worked fine.

I disconnected the original drive, booted from the Ghost 9 disc and restored two images to a spare drive,
one off a CD (image of a new installed Windows) and one off a backup drive that's connected all the time
(image of the drive after installing all the programs and organizing the files).
The only problem was that I had to load Windows from the spare drive before restoring
because the backup drive had no letter when the original drive was disconnected
(and so not accessible through the Ghost boot environment).

your 2nd paragraph is interesting.
would u be so kind as provide some detail?
i take it your "back-up drive" and your "spare drive" are two different drives, yes?
these are physically different hard disks?
could you describe the partitioning on each?
what type of drives? ide/ata? sata? any usb?
the back-up drive you mention had no letter cuz it was not partitioned & formatted? .. in other words, cuz it was a new (blank) drive?
i ask cuz, you should be able to restore an image to a new, blank drive .. at least with ghost 2003, you can. maybe ghost 9 requires a different strategy. i am not (yet) familiar with ghost 9.

Yeah they are physically different hard disks.
My backup drive is similar to the main drive (both WD 120GB SATA),
while the spare the drive is my old main drive. (Seagate Barracuda ATA III 30GB, connected through IDE)
Both aren't partitioned, while the main drive has 2 partitions
(one for the system, which I 'Ghosted', and one for the mp3/movies/etc).
The backup drive has its letter while in the main drive
(and it contains backups of Ghost & another program, + other files)
The spare drive wasn't empty when I restored to it, it was reformatted with Windows.
(By the way, I use Windows 2000.)
