Where is the Driver Validation Tool?
Feb 11th, 2007 at 5:57pm

Hi

I contacted Norton support about my problems booting from the .iso file and was told to run the driver validation tool.

I looked in the help files and ran a search online.
I can find a lot of references to it but nothing that says where I access it.

I don't see Driver Validation Tool as part of the Ghost program, and it isn't mentioned in the help files.

Where do I find it?

Mike

Mike, when you insert your Ghost 10 CD (from Windows) it should autorun and one of the menu choices is Run Driver Validation. If it doesn't autorun then browse the CD from My Computer and you will see a Driver Validation folder. In this folder double click DRIVERVALIDATION.EXE.

Hi

I’m back.
I don’t actually have a install disk since I downloaded the software from Symantec.

Ok I figured out that the .iso image file opens the install screen when I put the CD in the drive.

Here is the result of the driver validation tool...

A detailed information about these devices is given below
Class: Net
Class Guid: {4D36E972-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}
Description: NVIDIA nForce Networking Controller
Hardware Id: {1a3e09be-1e45-494b-9174-d7385b45bbf5}\NVNET_DEV0057

So what do I do now?

Pass this information to Symantec.
Looks like your HDs are OK. Do you have SATA HDs?

Sorry didn't get the whole thing.

The following devices do not have drivers in the Symantec Recovery Disk.
NVIDIA nForce Networking Controller

A detailed information about these devices is given below
Class: Net
Class Guid: {4D36E972-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}
Description: NVIDIA nForce Networking Controller
Hardware Id: {1a3e09be-1e45-494b-9174-d7385b45bbf5}\NVNET_DEV0057
----------------------------------

I do not have a floppy drive.
Can this be done from an other CD drive, I have two of those.

You won't need a floppy drive.

Hi Brian

No I don't have SATA hard drives.
I have two 200 gb standard drives in a master slave setup.
In addition I have an external 300 gb firewire drive.
The external drive is the one I have my backup files on.

No Raid or anything fancy.

I have sent the info from the validation tool and my system specs to Symantec.

I have read a lot of information about this problem and it seems to be fairly common.
The answer that most comes up is to press f6 and load the drivers from a floppy disk.

It would seem that they could fix this problem very easily by just having the software search the boot CD for the drivers.  Then all you would only have to copy the missing drivers to the boot CD along with the .iso file to correct the problem.

Is there a way to open the .iso file insert the drivers and recreate it?

Anyway I hope Symantec will get back to me with some help.

Thanks again

Mike

Mike, by pressing F6 you can load SATA/RAID drivers but you can't load network drivers. I think Symantec need to supply you with a different .ISO.

Also I'm not sure whether that error message from the Validation tool is really the cause of your CD not booting properly. My Validation tool says I don't have SATA/RAID drivers but my CD boots and I can see my HDs so I don't have much faith in the error message.

Thanks for the help Brian.

I'll just have to wait and see what I get from Symantec.

HI

I'm still waiting, no reply yet.
I guess I should start the process all over, I did get a response the first time I e-mailed them.
