SATA hard drive (HDD) enclosures?  Do you own
Mar 23rd, 2007 at 8:57am

Dear esteemed Radified colleagues:
I've had a good amount of experience with IDE enclosures.  My conclusion: Only buy Macally.  Well, there may be other terrific brands, but the Macally enclosures are the least problematic by far (IMO).  I see no compatibility issues like I do with the cheap enclosures (although the Macally's are not much more expensive).

Here's my question:  Has anyone bought a SATA enclosure?  What brand?  Did you put it through its paces?  Would you recommend it?

Thank you.

Out in our two-car enclosed garage there are over a dozen sealed plastic storage tubs containing remnants of our surviving post-Katrina possessions.  I seem to recall that in amongst them somewhere is a Kingwin SATA enclosure with a Seagate SATA NCQ HDD.  It used to work just great, but I have not seen it since early September of 2005.  With luck, it should be back in the house by late summer.
