Building Ghost 10 Boot disk w/ Firewire + SATA
Apr 10th, 2007 at 1:10pm

Hello all,
I am not exactly new to ghost, but I have had a hell of a time trying to figure this out.

Building a recover DVD for a laptop without a floppy drive, but with a sata internal raid.
I can not get ghost to see the internal disk and I only have a firewire drive to use as a backup disk.

This seems possible, but I can not figure it out.

Thanks for your help

Bin32, while I have not used this myself, Norton Save and Restore 2.0 (and presumable the forthcoming Norton Ghost 12) has the ability to create a custom version of the Symantec Recovery Disk.  In this way, you can easily add drivers to the recovery environment.

Does that help?

See:  Norton Save & Restore 2.0

Also, you could contact Symantec and request a custom ISO.

Tried PeBuilder and that worked great!!

Thank you all for you help; it seem that I have forgotten more than I thought.

I remember running ghost from dos and this windows gui is new to me. Is there a way to run ghost from the CD as well?

If it were possible I'd like to boot into window run ghost to make the image, backing up to a removable drive and then burn a dvd with the recovery console and the image on it.

Thanks again for all the help and I will keep reading through the forum to find this answer.

bin32,

You can create and restore .gho files from the recovery CD. This is using the Ghost 8.2 legacy component, not Ghost 10. From the recovery environment click.....
Recover (on left)
Recover using a legacy Ghost image
OK

You can't create .v2i files from the CD

Why don't you try and let us know. I think I tried this last year and I couldn't use the backup image on the DVD. Ghost booted OK but wouldn't restore the .v2i.
