	unattended ghost 10 install Apr 17^th, 2007 at 1:08pm I would like to know how to create a bootable cd/dvd that will automatically recover a computer with Norton Ghost 10. I own 2 legal copies of Norton Ghost 10 and I need to re image about 150 computers, all of the computers are the same make and model. I already have the image for the computer created as .v2i and .sv2i

You need 150 legal copies, not 2 if you plan to use Ghost 10 on 150 computers. Check with Symantec for discounts and/or site licenses.

I must be missing something because I don't see any similarity between Backup Exec and Ghost. Ghost 12 comes from the design line of Drive Image to Ghost 9/10. Backup Exec (as I recall) is the Veritas product which Symantec bought.

Wouldn't that be like saying that Acronis True Image is similar to Ghost 10? Agreed they both create backup images, but otherwise I don't see the similarity.

Personally I think Symantec is confusing it's corporate and consumer customers with too many similar products, which resulted from buying too many other companies.

Yes, the naming of products by Symantec is certainly confusing. Norton Ghost 12 will be the Windows Vista compatible version of Norton Ghost 10 for consumers when it appears. BESR is what was formerly known as “LiveState Recovery,” based upon the original PowerQuest technology – and not related to the Veritas acquisition. Backup Exec (not to be confused with Backup Exec System Recovery!) was a Veritas product, however, as I understand the situation.

When referring to the similarity of BESR 7.0 (“desktop edition”) and Norton Ghost 12, my intention was to emphasize the fact that both products will have a number of new/improved features in common:

Symantec Restore Anyware technology
Enables end user file recovery via Google Desktop
File/folder backup and recovery
Physical to virtual (P2V) and virtual to physical (V2P) conversions
Drivers can be manually added directly to the Symantec Recovery Disk

I've used the trial version of Backup Exec System Recovery Desktop. It is like a cross between Ghost 9 and 10. Very nice to use. The incremental function seemed better than Ghost 9/10. For example, if you have a power failure causing the computer to shut down ( or you shut down with the power button as a "test"), Ghost 9/10 will do a baseline recovery point rather than the next scheduled incremental recovery point. BESRD will perform the next scheduled incremental recovery point but there is a message about comparing changes from the previous recovery point. Or something like that.
