Gave Up Ghost 3 For Save & Restore 2
Apr 21st, 2007 at 10:16pm

Well, I finally did it; I gave up on Ghost 3 and have switched to S&R2.  Definitely easier and quicker to perform the back-ups.  Also like the ability to back-up folders/files - Photoshop, Word, Excel and MP3 files.

As Rad once said, it does not matter which back-up program you use, as long as you use ONE (or something like that)

What's the biggest difference?

How's it feel to you?

The big difference is that I did not take the time to learn how to automate 3 - running it manually on 3 partitions with 2 save points - one being an external drive - took a lot of time.  More convenient than having Ghost perform the main back-up and another program, such as Shadow, keeping my music backed up - I ghosted my mp3s only once!

Thorin, can you please check and confirm that neither Ghost 2003 nor Ghost 8.2 is included as part of Norton Save & Restore 2.0 (NSR2), and reply with a post?

I did not see any reference in the User's Manual to either of these 'legacy' Ghost applications, but I have not used NSR2 myself.

Thank you.

Pleonasm,

I "browsed" the CD and I "explored" the CD and could find no mention of Ghost 2003 and or Ghost 8.2.

The best way to look for such is to mount the installation CD in an optical drive and having it idling with no evident activity.  Then, hit START>SEARCH>FOR FILES OR FOLDERS>ALL FILES OR FOLDERS>ALL OR PART OF THE FILE NAME:
ghost
; then restrict the search for that simple five-letter word in lower case to the appropriate optical drive.  I suspect that you will fail to find it, but if you really want to be thorough then enter the target phrase in ...>A WORD OR PHRASE IN THE FILE: Smiley

Thanks for the advice.  Did what you said, searched all or part of a file name and a word or phrase in the file, and still came up with nothing when the word search was "ghost".

Thank you, Thorin – your work confirms what we had expected:  the availability of purchasing Ghost 2003 and/or Ghost 8.2 at retail by consumers is rapidly disappearing.
