Problem with too many files made in Ghost 10
Jul 8th, 2007 at 8:01pm

Hi Everyone,
Strange thing happened today when I made an image (Ghost10) of my D drive.  I set it up like I always do (set to "Divide into smaller files" and selected 4480).  I went through the normal steps and ran Ghost.  When it finished I found that it had made 8 files.

s01.v2i (4,577,280KB)
v2i (4,577,280KB)
s02.v2i (3,522,560KB)
i001.iv2i (256KB)
i002.iv2i (256KB)
i003.iv2i (256KB)
i004.iv2i (256KB)
sv2i at 2KB

This is the first time this has happened and I'm not sure whats going on.  Just before I made the image of my D drive, I had made an image of my C drive and it was competed correctly without the smaller 256KB files.   Strange.

Any ideas will be appreciated.  Thanks,  Mac

Mac,

Strange. Would you mind providing the full file names and the Date Modified as well as the time of each file?

How much data is in your D: drive?

I did some poking around and testing including defragging the storage drive.  I also remembered setting the storage drive to 80% of the drive size (as recommended by Symantec) because I was having problems with Ghost not erasing the old image files and I was getting multiple backups (images) that were filling up the storage drive.  I reset the % down a little then tried another backup.  This time it worked fine.  So now I'm not sure if the problem was because of the 80% of the drive size or because I needed to defrag the drive.  I suspect it has more to do with the defrag.  At any rate it is now working again.

Mac,

Not many of us ever defrag backup images.
