Ghost 12 recovery environment will not start when boot from cd

Hi
My notebook was send back to Asus for repair and I just got it back with xp clean installed. Luckily I made a backup with Ghost 12 but the notebook just won't boot from the cd. After it says "press any key to boot from cd" I see the Asus startup screen, the cd makes some noise and then it says "press any key to boot from cd" again, and so on. Driver validation says the boot cd has all the drivers for a correct startup and on my old desktop pc the cd boots correctly. Ghost 10 does boot correctly from the notebook but I can't restore the backup files I made with Ghost 12 with that version.
I also tried the Lightsout restore utility to be sure it wasn't the cd drive that failed, but that didn't work as well, the notebook kept on rebooting and all I saw was a black screen, it resulted in reinstalling xp because I didn't know what to do, I couldn't even get in the bios.
So now I'm stuck, anybody knows what I could try next? I spend an hour to read all the topics here and couldn't find one with the same problem.

The CD is likely missing drivers for your laptop. I'd install Ghost 12 and create a Custom Recovery Disk CD. See page 19 in the UserGuide.
Run the Driver Validation tool on your old and new CD.
With the Custom CD, restore the image you made a few weeks ago.

Hi Brian.
I did make a custom recovery disk and I checked it afterwards with driver validation.
The program says that "All detected storage devices and network cards have drivers in the symantec recovery disk", so that could not be the problem.
Another strange thing: in the folder which contains the backup, there is a notepad with the name "gearext.wo_ident"
In here it says:
Mastering information file to accompany premaster tapes and CD/DVD discs.
GEAR image building and premastering software, GEAR Software 2006.
Mastering order references (customer information):
- Customer name:
- Customer contact:
- Telephone number:
- Origination date: 2-3-2006
- Master ID code:
- Customer reference code:
- Disc title:
Disc image related information for mastering:
- Number of tracks: 1
- Recommended LEAD IN period for mastering: 180 seconds.
- Recommended LEAD OUT period for mastering: 210 seconds.
Could this be part of spyware??? Than maybe the backup contains a virus of some sort and I could better spent my time on reinstalling everything I had instead of backin up with ghost.

My mistake. You did mention that in your first post.
We know you can boot the Ghost 10 CD in your laptop and you can boot your Ghost 12 CD in your desktop.
I still think it's a driver issue despite the custom CD. There is a Symantec email address to use for these CD problems. I'll try to find it.

Great, thanks. It has to be a driver problem. maybe symantec can sent me a new copy customized for my notebook.

I just saw your addition on Gear. It's OK. Gear is the CD/DVD burning component of Ghost.
