prompting for next image file?
Dec 17th, 2007 at 3:03pm

Hi, I'm hoping someone has run into this before.
I created a ghost image of our new Vista machine. It is split into 745final.gho and 745fi001.ghs

I've made a bootable Ghost DVD with the image on it.
I've set
GHOST.EXE -clone,mode=load,src=745final.gho,dst=1 -sure

as the command line, the dvd boots up fine and starts imaging the hard drive, but it prompts for the 2nd file half way through. Is there anyway for it to automatically use the 2nd file? Multicast doesn't have this problem.

thanks!

What version of Ghost are you using?

Quote:
GHOST.EXE -clone,mode=load,src=745final.gho,dst=1 -sure

That does not appear to be the correct *syntax*--there's no *path* for the *src* file, and I thought one had to specify a partition from the source file even if there was only one partition--*...src=(path)745final.gho:1,...*.  (Hmmm--I guess the partition specification only applies if doing a *partition* restore--not a *whole disk* restore!

I don't know if this is relevant--but, it looks like it might be:

In this recent forum thread (not a ghost image file - error ) here at Radified, nbree refers to a thread on the Symantec Ghost Solution Suite (GSS) support forum:  Can't reimage or extract files from ghost image - help .  His reply #38 has a reference to another thread and a tool that can fix certain codes for an image file that has to do with *end of file* flags and *spanned file* flags.  You might see if that applies to your situation:

Can't reimage or extract files from ghost image - help (reply #26)

Ghost Fixup Command Line Tool

Let us know if it helped!

I'm actually using Version 7 Enterprise.

The syntax is "correct" both ghost.exe and the 745final.gho are in the same folder so it finds the image without any problems. The problem is that it doesn't want to automatically go to the next file of the image. It prompts you for the next file, but all you have to do is hit enter on the keyboard and it continues the image. Just annoying that you can't put in the DVD and walk away. Maybe I'm just out of luck.

It is to do with DOS file size limitation .
if you try to keep image size to below 2 GB
then the recovery goes smoothly .
unfortunately SP2 takes XP PRO  size just above the 2 GB limit.
although there are few software that can reduce the size
before imaging.

it is confusing for customers but it is worth it
as ghost 7 and ghost 8 from dos are very reliable
and no windows type imaging software can beat them on reliability.

---------------------------------------------
of course if any body finds a work around to this
will be great .But not probable
