Error Message in Save & Restore 2.0
Mar 2nd, 2008 at 6:30pm

Listed below is the error message that I keep getting when I boot from the Symantec Recovery Disk.

I could not do a screen capture to make an attachment, when booting from the Symantec Recovery Disk.

"DlMapper.exe - Application Error
The Exception Unknown Software Exception (0xc000000d) occurred in the
application at location 0x004a5abb.
Click on OK to Terminate the Program.
          OK"

I can boot from the Symantec Recovery Disk, from my DVD-ROM drive OK, but I
keep getting the above mentioned error message. If I click on the OK button in the error message, the recovery process continues, and I can get to Save & Restore.

I just tried this again. This time I connected my WD Passport
Drive and found all of my back ups listed, but, because of Symantec's
inability to retain the same drive letters, I get the following changes:

My F & G Drives (which are in my WD External USB 2.0 Drive) have changed to
I & J respectively.

My J Drive  ( which is my WD Passport Drive) has changed to K.

The only problem I am really having is: Why do I keep getting the above Error
message?

Apparently there is something wrong to keep getting this error message. I
don't want to have problems if I want to restore a drive.

I did not go any further with the restore process because I didn't need to
restore anything.

Any suggestions would be appreciated.
Thanks Angry

jslow,

Could you enumerate the drive letters you see in Windows?

Do you have a card reader?

Could you disconnect all USB devices and try booting to the Recovery CD? Any errors? What drive letters do you see?

Hi Brian,
Thanks for the reply.
I finally got to try your suggestions.

I normally create back ups to my F & G drives which are in my Western Digital external USB 2.0 drive and also to my J drive which is my WD Passport usb 2.0 external portable drive.

I do not have a card reader.

When I disconnect all USB devices (except keyboard & mouse), I still get the same error message as before, when booting to the Recovery CD.

If I continue with the Recovery CD, I get to Save & Restore but now, no drive letters show up where I have my back ups saved.

During a recent chat discussion with a Symantec Analyst, he told me to ignore the error message. I don't feel comfortable doing that. Something is causing the error message.

Thanks

jslow,

You shouldn't be getting error messages when booting to the CD. Could you try the CD in another computer to see if you still get the error?

You are not alone (dlmapper.exe)

Hi Brian,

I tried booting from the Recovery CD in a IBM Computer running WinXP Home, SP2 & Save & Restore 2.0 and I did not get the error message.

I uninstalled Save & Restore & then Reinstalled it on my Dell 4700 computer running Win XP Pro, SP2 and I'm still getting the same error message.

Any suggestions?
Thanks

So the CD is probably OK. There is only one report (and no solution) of your dlmapper issue in Google so you are unlucky. I have no idea what that file does. I just tried my NSR 2 CD and it does assign correct drive letters. Ghost 9 is the exception but all Ghosts from 10 onwards read the registry and assign correct drive letters. We did see some problems with Ghost 10 and external HDs having incorrect letters but no-one reported errors when the CD was loading.

Out of interest could you boot to the CD, click Explore My Computer and select one of your Recovery Points from the Recovery Point Browser. Click Verify. If it verifies there is a good chance everything is OK but restoring a recovery point to another HD would be the acid test.

Are you comfortable deleting some Registry entries? This is what I'm thinking about.

http://www.goodells.net/multiboot/partsigs.htm

See Method 2#. It can't do any harm. Maybe dlmapper is having problems with these entries. It's only a guess.

Hi Brian,

When I boot with the Recovery Disk the following is noted:
"Drive letters under the Symantec Recovery Disk might not match those in the windows environment."

When I go to Analyse, Explore my Computer, the Verify button at the top is grayed out.
( I do check the verification box when I create a back up. I don't know if that makes a difference.)

I guess I need to spend more time trying to figure things out on the recovery Disk.

Thanks

I think you have to click to select a recovery point before the Verify button becomes active.

Hi Brian,

Just an update on my problem.

I still get the error message when I boot from my Custom Recovery Disk but if I click OK, it continues on with Save & Restore.

I then restored a drive to one of the partitions on my hard drive that does not have an operating system on it and the drive restored without problems.

Even though I get the error message, the restore process seems to work OK.

Any thoughts on this?

Thanks
