Just installed new copy of YaBB v2.2.1

Hey.

Just installed a new copy of YaBB v2.2.1 (the latest/greatest version). See here:

http://radified.com/cgi-bin/yabb221/YaBB.pl

Still needs lotsa tweaking, and that URL will go away when we switch over to make it the active forum, but you can check it out if you like.

The install went without a hitch. I'm getting good at it .. from doing it so often.

Hopefully this version should stay with us until YaBB v3.0 arrives .. which will be the first version to support databases (MySQL). That might make it a little zippier. Not sure.

I'm planning to finish tweaking today and upgrade tomorrow.

Gonna try to keep this install as close to pure-YaBB v.2.2.1 as possible. Won't use any pre-221 files unless I absolutely have to.

So it will take longer to tweak.

Seems like I just did this in January. Oh wait, I did! (On the 22nd .. and it didn't go well if I recall correctly.)

One of the reasons I stick with YaBB is cuz they really provide good support over there (at their forum). Great bunch of guys. (Not as great as here, tho.) Very helpful.

When I'm done, we'll have a newer, faster forum, on a new fast (VPS) server.

Almost done. Might even do it tonight. (Bad idea, I know. I should wait 'til tomorrow, when I'm fresh. Pretty tired now.)

Here's what I have on my little cheat-sheet remaining to be done:

Quote:
1. Put both forums in Maint mode
2. Copy 3 directories from old to new forum (/Boards, /Members, /Messages)
3. Upload edited Paths.pl to yabb221 to reflect new home URL
4. Rename old forum to _old_yabb2
5. Rename yabb221 directory to "yabb2"
6. Enter new forum (at old address) & take it out of Maint mode
7. Recount/rebuild everything
8. After new forum verified working properly, delete old forum files

Been gone all day.

When I click on the above link, I get an error saying the page can not load.  Close the browser and click again and it opens, but then I'm logged off of the current forum.  Don't know if that's of any importance--may be some new security thing--but I have to log back into the current forum.

Yeah, same thing here. I was using the same cookie names, which I probably shouldn't .. until *after* the move/upgrade.

So I changed the cookie at new forum to a number different by 1. That should fix that.

I've registered as NightOwl221.  But there's no way for me to use PM or post anything--I have to have posted at lease one time before I can use PM--but there's no form postings to reply to--and I just get an error message and a *Back* option when I try to go to a board.

I have to go to work today, so I may have only limited ability to log-in and *play*!

You may have already upgraded by the time I've tried to log-in again!
