Ghost 10 - strange things happening
Mar 21st, 2008 at 5:02am

I had problems with Ghost 10 a week or so back which seemed to linked in with a hard disk problem. (See thread 'Starting out right') a couple of threads down. The hard disk prolem was resolved and Ghost seemed to be ok, but I spoke too soon! This is what is happeneing now.

If I unistall Ghost  and reinstall it, I can run a manual back up which seems to be ok. If I run Live update, then this completes normally but when I try a second back up, the progress stops at 1% - initialising - reconciling volume.

If I try and run live update again, I get a message saying that the version of ghost I am using is a pre-release 2005 or Beta version and is not supported by Symantec.

If I uninstall Ghost, re-install it and do not run Live update at all then it appears to run ok.  Any suggestions?

The programme was registered when I installed it (about 12 months ago) and there was no mention of it being anything other than a standard version of the program at that time.

I would ask Symantec about this but I resent having to pay in order to send them an email about a problem with their product.

OK, given up on this ****** software now. Am running a comparison between the free trial versions of Acronis and Paragon (Paragon in front at moment)

Rubble2, you may be interested in the recent review of image backup utilities here.  Personally, I use and prefer ShadowProtect Desktop.

Hi Rubble2,
    Greetings!!!

Symantec discontinued support to Norton Ghost10. They have NSR1.0/2.0/NG12/14 as their current versions. So they simply want you to upgrade to the latest versions.

Still if you wish to have Norton Ghost10.0. Uninstall and reinstall the NG10 and dont ever run liveupdate for NG10. For NG10, you dont neet any updates. Still if you want to do, you have to give up your product and go with their latest version NG14.0

rubble2,

I saw your post in the TI forum. Try doing a search for "corrupt". You will get over 1000 posts. I find that forum fascinating. There are some very clever people there who deal with lots of disasters. Mistakenly wiping your primary HD and having no working backup is one of the worst.
