To clean up your system and get rid of GoBack:

1. Uninstall GoBack from control panel.  Also uninstall NSW 2007 Premiere.  reboot.
2. Download and run the Norton Removal Tool for version for GoBack.
http://service1.symantec.com/Support/tsgeninfo.nsf/docid/2005033108162039
3. reboot
4. Download and run the Norton Removal Tool for 2007.  reboot.

At this point you should have the Norton products completely removed.

5. Install NSW 2007 Premiere.
6. Run LiveUpdate to check for any updates.

It's possible that the removal of GoBack at this point will make the XP system restore work again.

Test Norton Save & Restore.

Let me know how everything turns out.  Good luck.

(Many people have had problems with completely removing Norton products.  That's why Norton wrote the special removal tool!)

Thanks John - I did all that prior to instal. System Restore was missing before I installed any Symantec products. I think I shall just leave it there for the moment and when my subscription comes close to ending will seek an alternative to Symantec whose 'footprint' I hate

I agree with you and also think that these big "SystemWorks" type packages from Symantec as well as some other vendors are becoming big bloatware.

Instead of an all in one, I have one antivirus+antispyware software package (NOD32).  And, I have Norton Ghost 12.  And I keep my Windows XP or Vista pc's up to date with latest security patches/updates from Microsoft.

The fewer complexities introduced, the better.

Good luck.

I have been led to believe that I must remove all Symantec products before an alternative can be used.
My partner became so fed up with delays that I placed Kaspersky anti-virus on her machine. She is delighted as the program has a very small footprint and works unobtrusively.
If I am able to ditch all of my Symantec stuff except Save and Restore I would follow her

You might be able to do a "custom" install of NSW 2007, and only check the Norton Save & Restore for installation, but I don't know, and you'd have to at least insert the install cd and see if you can do that.

But back to your original problem with Save & Restore:  If you don't completely remove all the current and old versions of Norton and GoBack using the Norton Removal Tools, I pesonally doubt if you'll get S&R to install and work properly.

Did you see the free (after mail in rebates) offering of Ghost 14, valid through 4/3?  It does everything that S&R does.

Hi DaveyD,

  Greetings !!!

Regarding your Windows System Restore feature:

Have you installed the System Tools when you load windows?

Go to C:\Windows\System32

Check whether you have a folder restore

Hi Ajay - With this problem I had a helpful but evenutally fruitless online conversation with Symantec where the analyst investigated my PC. The result was 'Not a known issue'. I was told that the matter had been forwarded to research who would email with a solution. I have not yet had a feedback.
On your other question - I cannot find a 'folder restore' file either in system32 or elsewhere. My PC came with preloaded operating system from DELL and was returned by them after an inititial complete failure of the hard drive.
I am currently running an upgraded version of Premier System Works 2007 which includes 'Save and Restore' and 'Go Back'

I was at Fry's a couple days ago, and looked at all the retail boxes on Norton SystemWorks (version 2008 I believe).

On the side panel of the box Norton GoBack was NOT listed on any of them.

What version NSW do you have?  Is GoBack listed on the side panel?

Hi Johh,

   Greetings!!!

I had used the Norton GoBack4.0 earlier now I am not. Using only Norton Ghost14.0 on my PC's. From 2007 It has been renamed has Rollback. If the Norton GoBack is not installed you may have the message - Rollback not installed.

Hi John and Ajay
Yes I have a record of the online conversation and the reference number. I shall give a reasonable amount of time before following the query up.
I shall look into the possibility of removing all Symantec programmes except NSR after the response.
The NSW I am running is an Upgrade to 2007 Premier which the box says includes Norton AntiVirus, Norton Save & Restore, Norton Utilities, Norton GoBack, One Button Checkup and System Optimiser. All previous Symantec programmes were removed before installation.
