Move backup image to new PC

I have an HP computer with Windows XP. It came from the factory with an OEM version of XP installed on the C: drive, and a Recovery partition on the D: drive containing the version of XP installed on the C: drive. I do not have a Windows installation CD. It is my understanding that if I get a new computer, I will not be able to move or install my XP version to the new computer. I have Ghost 9.0, and have had no trouble making a backup image of my hard drive to an external drive and in restoring that image to the C: drive. Is there any reason why I could not use my Norton Ghost to restore the backup image on my external drive to a new computer? Thank you

Hi dajudge,
Greetings!!!
If you have a valid image on the external drive boot the computer with the symantec recovery disk(SRD) and then you can recover.
Try this out:
KB title : How to restore a drive using the recovery environment

Hi.
There are many threads which address this. I am trying to find some of the better ones. Not sure if Ghost 9 is up to the job. Maybe Ghost 12 or 14 would be better.

Dajudge, I do not believe that this is a technical problem, but a licensing issue. My understanding is that an OEM copy of Windows XP cannot be installed on a PC other than the one on which it was originally installed by the manufacturer.
