which version of Ghost will do the following....
Apr 24th, 2008 at 10:30am

After getting incomplete information from Symantic Sales I thought I would try this forum.   I am constantly rebuilding desktops and laptops for new users and I thought using a ghost image of a customized configured drive would be easier then rebuilding individual systems.

I am looking for a version of Ghost that will burn an image to a dvd and that dvd would be bootable.   Since most systems only have 1 DVD drive I want to boot to the DVD and reimage the locally installed hard drive.

Your advise is appreciated.

Hi.

Not sure what you mean, what you want.

for "new" users? Usually PCs are rebuilt for pre-existing users .. not sure of the exact word, but not "new".

Most recent versions of Ghost can do this. Even older versions, with a little tweaking:

when you use the word "reimage", do you mean create or restore the image?

Newer versions of Ghost make you install the prgm b4 creating the image, but you can restore with the bootable Ghost CD.

There is a version of Ghost (8.x, I think) that let's you do both from a bootable CD/DVD. There are threads here which get into this in great detail. If that's what you want, we can search and find those threads. I haven't looked, but this one might touch on that:

Thanks for the follow up.  It is really appreciated.

"New user" = a newly hired end user.
As for the booting and reimaging, let me clarify.
I want to boot to a DVD that contains the image to be restored to the local hard drive.  I do not want to boot to a DVD or CD and restore an image from another location such as a partition on the drive,a  USB device or a network location.

What is happening here is that I get a new hire starting in 2 weeks and that person usually has different software needs then the past user.  Due to security reason, I need to rebuild the PC or Laptop from scratch.  So instead of installing all the OS, drivers and software I am hoping to restore from an image stored on a bootable dvd.

I guess I was just wondering which version of Ghost is the easiest for creating a bootable DVD and store an image on the same DVD.

I will look at the links and research other threads on the DVD issue.

Thanks Again.

helpdeskadmin,

None of the Ghosts can create a bootable DVD.

You may be interested in trying IFW. It can create a bootable DVD as well as....
