Does the latest GHOST restore from external USB hard drives?
Aug 5th, 2008 at 6:25pm

I've got copy of ghost 2003. I'm having the hardest time getting a bootable CD working (I don't have a floppy drive) that will see an external mounted USB hard drive from which I would do a restore.

Instead, I'm thinking of just purchasing the latest Ghost (14.0). With this version, will it come with a bootable CD that can restore from a USB device?

If so, is there any other reason NOT to upgrade?

Did you look in the Ghost 2003 section or FAQ section?  There are lots of guides for adding drivers to the Ghost 2003 DOS program.

To answer your question though, Ghost 14 is the latest version.  It is a hot imaging product and runs with Windows XP and Vista.  It has it's own bootable CD (called Recovery CD which is the same as the install CD) and has many more drivers than the 2003 version.  There is support for SATA drives, external usb2 drives etc etc, plus support for newer motherboards, chipsets, etc.  For a newer pc this can be important.

Additionally, Symantec added a way to create a custom Recovery CD that contains additional drivers.

Also, Ghost 14 is certified for Vista.

I think so, but Ghost 12 has most of the same features of Ghost 14 (but not custom recovery CD creation).

There have been some special deals (often almost free) posted.  See "GOOD DEALS..." thread.
