I was trying to update the FAQ thread post but can't find the "modify" icon there to add new info to one of the posts.

It's there for recent posts, but wonder if there is some new feature that locks modifications to posts that are over xx days?

It didn't affect the FAQ thread posts.  I only see "Mark & Quote" and "Quote" in those, which have a date of 4/11/07.

By my calculations, 2 years = 2x365x24x60=1,051,200 minutes

If you can temporarily increase it some more, I will be sure each post is updated.

ooh, i was just thinking .. i need to include the faq up on one of those TABS at the top.

I can see the *Modify* button.

So, the Admin can not modify either unless you uncheck that box to disable?

I guess I can see why one would not want members modifying their posts after a certain time--or deleting them--the search engines that have cataloged the threads will no longer be valid--and make the search results less valid.

So, I suppose we can make the occasional disabling when needed and then re-enable.

Off topic, but have you given any consideration to the *Global Moderator*, having a penalty box for spam postings, and the ability to ban spamming users.

Saw an interesting distinction:  At the top of the post is the date/time (this case 4/17/07) which I thought was the last modified date.  That evidently is the date/time the post was ORIGINALLY created.

After being able now to click on the "modify" option, I see at the bottom of the modified message, another date which is 3/26/08.  That is evidently the last modified date; in my case about a year ago.

I understand the reasoning for not allowing modifications or deletions of older posts by members because as NIghtOwl stated, it can affect search and indexing options.

I'm done with editing now, and you can restore the setting back to whatever you feel appropriate.

Yeah, now that we know how to toggle the setting, it would be easy to re-enable (& disable) should you again need to edit the FAQ, which either NightOwl or myself could do.

But, the new forum software apparently shows below the reply box, to the left--a series of options with check boxes--and at the very bottom of list, when you have hit the *Modify* button--it shows *Last Edit:*.  If it's never been modified--it has a *-* (dash).  But if you have previously made changes, it shows the date, or *Today*, and time of the last time the posting was modified.

So, that's a *private* listing of the last time you have modified your post so you know when it was.
