Downloaded my first SVN build today .. using TortoiseSVN:
http://svn.modxcms.com/docs/display/revolution/Using+MODx+Revolution+from+SVN
Kinda proud of myself. Figured it out on my own.
Was actually a little surprised when the files started downloading.
Of course, now I need to figure out how to do something with these files.

Usually, the next step would be to compile them and then manually install them. If this is your first crack at learning a new CMS, you might want to start with a stable build instead of the SVN version. The version in SVN is usually an up-to-the-minute state of the code. It'll have all the newest features and probably more than a few bugs.

It's still in beta. RC not scheduled until "Spring 2010."
The SVN thing was more about experience with SVN than stable builds.
I was unable to proceed past the download. They have a build script, but I was spending too much time learning about how to make it work.
I just installed the downloadable version.

That's what I've been wondering--what exactly are you supposed to be able to do with this software?

It's a Content Management System. It helps you create a dynamic web page by providing a blog, calendar, forum, shoutbox, and other stuff like that. Most CMS's have a plug-in architecture that allows you to extend its functionality and a theming system so you can customize the look and feel.

there's a file and instructions for assembling the raw source code files into an installer of sorts, but it was rather complicated to figure out.
