I was going to suggest booting from the installation CD--it is bootable and can load external USB HDD support. But, your response above indicates that you are not successfully booting to DOS from the CD--the *install* of Ghost can only occur from the installation CD once you have booted to Windows!
Quote:Will your CD solve my problem
So, the answer is *No*--my bootable CD will not work either if you can not boot to DOS using the Ghost 2003 installation CD. My CD would not boot to DOS in any way that is different from how the Installation CD boots--so you would have to solve that issue first. Sometimes you have to either press a key such as F8 during the initial bootup of the system to bring up a boot menu that lists the different devices to boot from--such as the optical drive. Or, on some systems, you have to enter the BIOS setup (most often by pressing the *Delete* key--but it could be F1 or some other key or key combination) shortly after turning the system on. Usually in one of the *Advanced* menu sections, you can select the *Boot Order*--and placing the optical drive as the first boot device might be necessary. And placing the internal HDD second, and then saving those settings should allow you to place a bootable optical disc in and successfully boot from it!
My tutorial,
Creating Bootable CD/DVD's Without A:\Floppy Drive, will help someone 1. who does not have the Ghost 2003 installation CD, 2. does not have a floppy drive (most optical disc authoring programs--such as Nero--will request either a boot floppy disk in order for them to create a bootable optical disc--or ask for a *image file* of a boot floppy disk), or 3. needs to add customized boot files because the Ghost 2003 bootable CD does not have the needed DOS files for their particular hardware.
Quote:but unfortunalety the specified link to download the boot98.exe doesn't work
You want the *Windows 98 SE OEM*--the tenth file link listed--just used the link (
http://www.bootdisk.com/bootdisk.htm )--and it worked fine!? The file name of the download is *boot98se.exe*. You start WinImage, and then open that file by clicking on the *File* menu item, and select *Open*, and then locate where you saved the *boot98se.exe* file. Opened the file just fine when I tried it just now!--so you will need to review your steps to figure out what you are doing incorrectly.
The other alternative that many have used, is to use an external USB floppy drive to boot their Ghost boot floppies--but, that may not work if you need to use an external USB HDD to store the Ghost image on--but, there may be a workaround for that as well--if you want to try to go that direction.
Quote:is it possible to buy the complete bootable CD from you - or an .iso file to burn it using Nero?
Well, not *buy*, but I can probably help out with a downloadable iso image--but without *ghost.exe* on it--you will have to use special programs (I can tell how) to add your copy of *ghost.exe* to the iso file before burning it to a disc.
But, I'm leaving town later this morning--I will be gone for the next week and will not have computer access--
you need to figure out why you can not boot from the Ghost 2003 installation CD. Once you have that accomplished, when I get back, we can take the next step!
If you have not figured out how to boot from a bootable optical disc, then we will have to further troubleshoot that issue......
