Ghost 15.0 and Safeboot
May 19th, 2010 at 2:49pm

Is it possible to clone a hard disk with Safeboot installed from one HD to another?  I want Safeboot to work on the new drive.  I just want to move my current HD to a bigger HD.

Thanks

I've no idea. Which OS do you have? Desktop or laptop computer? What size are the HDs? Do you have a USB external HD?

Have you done the Ghost 15 Live Update?

I am using WinXP.  I am trying to clone the internal drive of a Dell laptop to a USB external HD.  And no, I have never used Ghost 15 Live Update.

Thanks.

No problem with WinXP. If you use Copy Drive (Ghost 15) with Win7, neither HD will boot at the end of the procedure if you haven't done a Live Update.

To clone your HD, make sure there is no partition with a drive letter on the target HD. Otherwise the new OS won't load into Windows. You can Copy Drive into Unallocated Space on into a partition without a drive letter.

In the Ghost Options choose...

Check source for file system errors
Check destination for file system errors
Resize drive to fill unallocated space
Set drive active (for booting OS)
DON'T SELECT Disable SmartSector copying
DON'T SELECT Ignore bad sectors during copy
Copy MBR
Destination partition type : Primary
Drive letter : None

Please let us know the outcome.

I forgot. Your Dell will probably have a 60 MB (about) Utility partition. Make sure you copy this before you copy WinXP. Naturally you don't want to choose "Resize drive to fill unallocated space" for this partition.
