ghostcast without PXE and TFTP server
Aug 30th, 2011 at 6:40pm

we have a ghostcast server here running on widnows 2003 server. this server also does dhcp.

we are able to boot computers into pxe network boot and ghostcast without a PXE and or TFTP server/service installed...and not sure how. I have checked the server inside and out and there is no install or service for PXE of TFTP.

i have created a new server with dhcp and installed ghocast suiet on there and ghsoting doesnt work, i get TFTP timeout errors and e053 erros saying no boot file was found.

can any explain how th sall works without PXE and TFTP server running??? its somehow doing evertying via dhcp but not sure how!

the pcs use pxe network boot with no bootdisk...at my last workpalce we had the same version of ghsotcast and needed to start the PXE and TFTP servers to ghost...here is not the case

You dont need a PXE server running to join a ghostcast session. However you need to boot into ghost, so the most common method is to use a pxe server to pull down a pxe image like dr-dos with ghost and packet drivers. Why dont you just use tftp32 and pxelinux.0? Then point tftp32 at pxelinux.0 and setup your pxelinux.cfg/default to the ghost.img file?
(If you dont know how to setup the image by the way you can build it with the symantec ghost disk image builder thing Ghost Boot Wizard.exe, use the PC-DOS option)
