In a world where everything you could ever want to know seems to have been indexed by Google, I found these two worth noting.

1. http://www.nytimes.com/2013/03/06/opinion/friedman-the-professors-big-stage.html (about the rise of MOOCs, published March 5)

2. http://www.pbs.org/wgbh/americanexperience/films/silicon/ (how silcon valley became, Feb 5)

the video: http://video.pbs.org/video/2332168287/ (2 hours)

Thanks Rad!  Fascinating show on Silicon Valley.  I love the history of that area.  There was another documentary in the early 90's produced by KQED in SF called "Boomtown" that was a little be wider in scope and very entertaining as well.I don't see it available on DVD at the PBS website though.  I have it somewhere on videotape. It was based on the book "The Big Score" by Tom Malone.  One of the first 'tech' writers of the time.  Little did I know when growing up, all the happenings going on just an hour north of me.
