press F10 key on boot to start Ghost image recovery

Hello Mr K Singh,

this is the Link you reguested:
http://www.911cd.net/forums//index.php?showtopic=14127&view=findpost&p=111856

it worked on windows XP+SP2 image from FAT32 partition to NTFS
using IBM (BOOTMGR)

I am not in the IT industry any more so I do not feel confident
enough to make any more comment on it except I did test it
on IDE hard disk few times and it seems to work as good as
OEM recovery used by HP or Dell
Dell are only people left using Ghost I believe others (HP)are using
PC ANGLE LE .
for my own private PC back ups i now use Acronise true Image 11
with Bart PE and I find it very fast with a USB 2 extenal hard disk.

Microsoft have their own method now with windows Vista (WAIK,FREE imagex included in WAIK download Free ) for Administrators and IT professionals:

good luck with your future IT research .

This isn't the case. We work with a wide range of manufacturers, including most of the majors; manufacturing is not monolithic and most manufacturers in fact use more than one product, just on different manufacturing lines to suit the needs of the particular process.

You will be glad that after some research and hit and trial i have myself come up with a solution to customize any PC/laptop with special key to restore system to backup state.

I did read the article but then it used lot of IBM specific tools. I have made a tutorial for people who want to do it without using the propriety tools from IBM.

You can check the post below with the user guide.
http://radified.com/cgi-bin/yabb2/YaBB.pl?num=1211223513

Besides, if one had acronis true image 11 home edition. You are alleviated from all these hassles of creating one. It has secure zone feature. It does everything what is there in guide with a click of the button.
The best part is you can password protect the whole system so that only authorized people can restore or backup.
Ghost would just let you password protect the images.

So if you have acronis, you can create a bootable cd using the software or the orginal disc in itself is bootable. You dont even have to install anything on the computer.

Set is using the bootable disc i.e. secure zone and for recovery/backup you have small easy wizard and you are done. They made it pretty easy for a novice also.

I agree that microsoft has come up with the new imaging software and that too for free. I believe Vista OS installation is now imaging based. Thats why its so difficult to now integrate service packs and updates into existing DVD media. Microsoft installed Vista on some computer and then captured the image using this software and sold out the copies. The imaging software create an image that is hardware independent. Something like universal restore from Acronis. I dont think Microsoft imaging supports incremental backup etc features.

That apart, if you consider using this as solution the download for the WAIK is more than 1 GB. Over and above its pretty complex. I mean for IT admin it may work after some experimentation but home user would have second thoughts using this.

Now another good thing of vista is, it already had a backup and restore functionality better than normal system restore. But then it is available in only business/enterprise and ultimate edition. So home user still dont gain anything.

So a home user looking for quick solution would anyways buy some already good UI software. Now i feel Acronis would be the best call because of very neat interface and very simple easy to understand wizards.

For any product starting with Norton, shakes me up. Rather it shakes my computer Sad. All the softwares are resource intensive and make your system crawl like anything. I try to stay as much as i can from them. Ghost 14 is no exception. In addition, the truck load of registries which always get to stay in you system even after uninstalling the product.

That is actually must if you happen to use any product with the initials as Norton. Sometimes or rather many times i wonder, does the software actually need all these registry entries to function or is it some mischievous guy trying to fiddle around with my computer too much??? Wink
