Last rally for info before I take it in for service.

I'm working on a friends box for him. It's an HP pavilion bought new in January 04. First symptom is no boot. It would get to the winxp login and freeze (POST, I'm thinking, something is hanging it up).

On my second try I get no video response and notice the disk drives don't spin. Okay, says I, power supply. I checked it with my multimeter and it checks out fine.

Now I'm thinking motherboard. I don't want to go poking on the board with the multimeter so I think I'm going to send him to the authorized repair ctr. since it's all still under warranty.

Thoughts?
