Installing "My Flash."
Apr 8th, 2005 at 5:30pm

Hi, All.

I have just installed "My Flash" Ver. PL2.40 and the USB Flash Utility icon has appeared on my desktop. However, I can't open this icon and there is no new drive showing in my "My Computer" list.

I have right-clicked "My Computer" and clicked "Manage-> Disk Management" but the drive is not shown there either.

The green led light is glowing steadily on the flash card.

What do I check to see if USB2.0 is enabled on my PC and should it be recognized by my OS if USB2.0 is not enabled anyway?

Look in your device manager. See if there are any yellow exclamation points or red X's. USB is usually down near the bottom.

I found the USB list, in device manager but no yellow exclamation marks or red Xs.

Ted.

What OS are you using?

Is your system supposed to have USB 2.0 functionality?

Have you hooked up any other USB devices before and did they work?

'My Flash' is a USB pen drive, right?  Does it say that it is functional under USB 1.x, or just USB 2.0 functionality?

In Device Manager, under Universal Serial Bus controllers, a USB 2.0 controller should have something in its name to the effect of 'USB
Enhanced
Host Controller'.

Whereas, a USB 1.x would say something like 'USB Open Host Controller' or 'USB Universal Open Host Controller' without the word 'Enhanced'.

My flash card reader shows up in Device Manager under the heading 'Storage volumes' as 'Generic volume'.

No question is stupid...but, possibly the answers are  Wink !
