Ghost 2003 on large drives
Nov 29th, 2005 at 12:51pm

Hi,

I would like to find out if I can take a backup of my 250 gb drive using Ghost 2003.
I have tried unsuccessfully a few times either on DVD or on a 120GB partition (second drive)

I am using an ITE IT8211 ULTRA CONTROLLER card in ordfer to use the larger capacity.
(I have actually partioned it into 2 parts of approx 125 Gb)

After going to dos (using Windows 98 floppy - not PC DOS) I see a Win 98 screen and then it freezes.

Previously the same method worked fine on a 120 Gb drive

Any suggestions GRATEFULLY RECEIVED!

Thanks

Does you controller allow access to the HDD in DOS?

To answer that, get a Win98se emergency boot disk and boot--successful?

BootDisk.com

Can you access those two partitions from the DOS-prompt after booting the Win98se boot disk?

Ghost 2003 should be able to access any HDD that DOS can.

Report back with the results of your efforts.

No question is stupid...but, possibly the answers are  Wink !

Thanks Nightowl.

I suddenly remembered I had left an extra card in the pc, and I had not assigned drive letters in the configuration - options.

Changing these resulted in the backup going fine.

Thanks. Appreciate your offer of help.  Smiley

By the way 'is there a Gb limit' for Ghost 2003 ?

Glad to hear it's working now.

Ghost image files will be a max 2 GB in size--but, to my knowledge no limit on how many spanned image files it can use--maybe a 1000 due to naming conventiion?

If the HDD size can be handled by DOS via the controller--Ghost 2003 should handle it too.
