Ghost 9.0 Problematic??
Dec 8th, 2005 at 8:45am

I have Ghost 9.0/2003 and have used 2003 on my Windows Me system with no problems.  In the near future I will be getting a new computer with Windows XP Home and plan to use version 9.0.  However, when looking at the top 10 problems with version 9.0 on the Symantec website, I am wondering how it works at all:---

Norton program installation appears complete, but you cannot start the program

Error: "Installation has failed. Would you like to try again?" when installing your Norton program

Norton Ghost 9.0 compatibility with Windows XP Service Pack 2

Error: "GhostTray.exe - Error in Application" after installing Norton Ghost 9.0

Blue screen after installing Norton Ghost 9.0 or Windows XP Service Pack 2

Is version 9.0 problematic??  Especially with Service Pack 2??  Would I be better off going to version 10?  The reviews don't mention problems like this, nor do they say that version 10 has less problems.

Stu, install Ghost 9 on your new computer. It's unlikely that you will have any trouble. Don't buy Ghost 10 yet. It does have problems with external HD's. These problems haven't been resolved by Symantec.

DEP in Win XP Sp2 is the root cause for your issue

Check out the below given Document

Title: 'Norton Ghost 9.0 compatibility with Windows XP Service Pack 2'

Manikandan, Stu doesn't have an issue with Ghost 9. He hasn't installed Ghost 9 yet and hopefully the DEP problem won't happen.

Hi Guru,

Thanks for correcting me.

By the way In Norton Ghost 10.0 the compatability with Win XP SP2 has been fixed.

So No issues with the OS.

But i dont understand     "It does have problems with external HD's. These problems haven't been resolved by Symantec."

If you could let me know what is the Problem . May be i can try to find what best can be done from my side.

NG 10.0 it has larger driver database both CD/DVD and Internal & External HDd
it has the drivers for both CD/DVD
check www.gearsoftware.com
supports a few more Raid levels
SCSI is supported

what else do you expect ????????????

Manikandan,

It's covered in http://radified.com/cgi-bin/YaBB/YaBB.cgi?board=general;action=display;num=11318...

A lot to read but I hope you come up with some new ideas.

Thanks Manikandan. Are you associated with Symantec?
