One that didn't get away

Christer started this holiday viewing trend by posting images of his gliding adventures. This is a 1.52 metre Spanish mackerel from the waters off Groote Eylandt (14.0° S, 136.6° E), also home to some of the world's largest barracuda.

Holy shit. That is a *big* fish.
Your arms must be aching.
Are they fighters?
What pound-test line do you use?
Good eating?

Great fish
I guess it's not a *fish story* when you can show a photo like that!
Nice *blue water*--the fishing offshore from Washington State in the Pacific is a merky light green--from all the plankton--have to motor out 30-40+ miles before you reach *blue water*!
No question is stupid...but, possibly the answers are
!

Rad, Spanish mackerel are one of the highest priced fish on the Australian market and are very strong fighters. 30 lb line is sufficient because we use low drag settings on our reels as a safety measure but occasionally line gets broken when the fish drags it over coral. You then lose the fish and a $15 (AU) lure.
NightOwl, the water does look beautiful but only a few are brave (stupid) enough to go swimming as there are sharks, crocodiles and box jellyfish this time of year. Sometimes we share our fish with sharks as this image from a few years ago attests.

That's a hoot.
Friends here have an arrangement with the owner of a local butcher shop to save all the blood & guts in a plasic 5-gallon bucket, which he freezes when full. My buddies use the bucket of guts to lure shark (preferably Mako).
Before tossing it overboard (attached to a nylon rope), they punch holes in side of the bucket. Doesn't take long for sharks to appear.
I've been deep-sea fishing on plenty of charter-boats (in New London, Connecticut .. Cape May, New Jersey .. Dana Point, California), but never thot the shark thing was a smart idea (.. not after seeing the movie "Jaws" anyway).
You ever done the shark trip?
