Ghost Explorer and NTFS partitions
Aug 29th, 2007 at 9:28am

Hi all,
although officially it is not possible to add/delete files with Ghost Explorer in a NTFS *.gho image, I wonder if someone found a workaround?
(Besides restoring - changing - creating a new image, naturally)
Thanks for your help and input!
Kurt

Kwenger, I am unaware of any mechanism to accomplish your objective, although perhaps one of the other Ghost 2003 experts on this forum might know otherwise.

I do not believe that Symantec has ever disclosed the format of the .GHO files, and for this reason, there have been no third-party utilities to manipulate the contents of those files.

Pleo's right that there is no way to do this in Ghost 2003. The newer versions of the same code - in the Ghost Solution Suite product - do let Explorer edit NTFS partitions Actually the heavy lifting to support that isn't in Explorer itself but in Ghost - the feature needs both.

In GSS2, the editing of images works by appending a list of changes to the image, so that meant extending the file format a bit to match - so if you edit an image with GSS2's explorer you'll need GSS2's version of Ghost to restore it.
