Restore works but now windows is using the wrong drive
Sep 30th, 2007 at 11:35am

Hi
I did a full system copy to a spare drive E. This was my second drive. I tested to
see if the restore was working by switching my main parallel cable to the E drive.
Now the strange part. I switched back my parellel cable to the original C drive
It seems even with the switch back...my second drive is acting as the C. In hardware
management it looks the the 0 drive is E instead of C. Do I have to rename my drive
letters in the drive management section. Or do something in the bios.
Regards RaveBaoy

Most likely, this relates back to WinXP remembering drive letter assignments based on the assigned NT disk signature in the Master Boot Record in absolute sector 0.

And, on most newer systems, you no longer are required to place your boot HDD on the primary, master HDD controller position!

You didn't mention which Ghost version you are using!?

What were the exact steps that you used?  After making the clone, did you leave it hooked up, did you re-boot--did you keep the original HDD hooked up when you put the new cloned HDD in place of the original old HDD?

No question is stupid ... but, possibly the answers are Wink !
