Breaking the Image Backup Barrier

Is it a Radified Forum record? Running
ShadowProtect Desktop 3.1
on Windows Vista Business (32-bit) on a
HP xw4600 Workstation
with 15K RPM
SAS
hard disks (
Fujitsu MAX3073RC and MAX3147RC
), I am able to create a full backup image of the system partition at over 65MB/second and verify it at over 75MB/second routinely (no compression, no encryption, 100% IO throttle) — sometimes even faster.
P.S.: Is this how
Chuck Yeager
felt?

In Chuck's case, the feats he attempted were often very dangerous given the little aviation knowledge available at the time. I'm sure danger adds to the excitement considerably.

Chuck can only *wish* for such a blazingly-fast backup. Eat your heart out, Chuck.
Your workstation, Pleo?
What SAS controller was used with the drive?

Rad, please see
HP xw4600 Workstation
for an overview of the workstation. It contains the LSI 3041E 4-port SAS card.
Interestingly, the speed is reduced by approximately 50% when creating a 'cold image' from within the ShadowProtect Recovery Environment versus creating a 'hot image' from within Windows Vista. I would have expected the Recovery Environment to be faster, given the absence of the full operating system overhead - but that's not the case.

I'm drawing a total Blank, on the SAS thing.
It's Not something I've ever used, or probably never will.
But I'm curious as to where you're getting those speed readings?
Does the program tell you just how fast it's transferring data....
like Ghost 2003 does?
I ask, because when I'm doing a Ghost 2003 backup from my first SATA2 drive to my second SATA2 drive, I'm seeing transfer rates (reported by Ghost) of from 1000mbps to 1500mbps.
I back up my entire C: drive in less than five minutes, with FAST compression.
I'm just wondering how that compares to what you're seeing. ???
Just curious....

TheShadow, for information about SAS, please see:
Serial Attached SCSI
.
The speeds I reported are displayed by ShadowProtect Desktop when the image is created/verified.
Generally speaking, a 15,000 RPM SAS drive will be about twice as fast as a 7,200 RPM SATA hard disk drive.
