Backing up/restoring outside Windows
Apr 12th, 2008 at 1:46pm

Hi,

I need to be able to backup and restore partitions from outside Windows. The software must be able to read/write from USB and sata disks.

Which software do I need?

Image for DOS.

It can handle 2048 sector offset partitions too. I think it's the only app that can do that outside Windows.

Lcd, you may also wish to look at ShadowProtect Desktop by StorageCraft. It has the ability to both backup and restore partitions after booting from the Recovery Environment CD disc, and is compatible with USB and SATA.

Brian, if I understand your comment correctly, I believe that ShadowProtect Desktop can also restore a partition to a user-selected offset.  Right-click the desired volume in the Disk Map in the Recovery Environment, and change the partition creation policy (starting offset) for the drive.  Is this what you need to do?

Pleonasm,

Yes, restoring at the end of a 2048 sector boundary. I didn't know SP could do that as it's not in the userguide but I vaguely remember Nate mentioning "partition creation policy" although that's not in the userguide either. I'm not doubting you.
