What computer?  What hard drive?  What build of Ghost 2003?

How are you running Ghost.....from Windows or from a DOS boot disk?
Are you using Compression?  What level?

For an IDE drive, that speed is about right, for Ghost run from a DOS boot disk with FAST compression.
For a SATA2 drive, still with FAST compression, that speed will usually jump up to over 1000.

A lot of the speed for data transfer, depends on how efficient the motherboard is at transferring data.
My own MSI mobo and my SATA2 drives can transfer data at truly blinding speeds.  Here is a sample.

...

I know it's hard to read, but I think that data transfer speed is something like 2645 MB/min.  (I've seen better!) Wink
No two computers are exactly alike, so speeds can vary greatly.

Merry Christmas!

Ah yes,,,,,, the old Quantum Fireball.
That was a good drive in its day, but that was then, and this is now.

I believe that's a 5400 rpm drive..... slow by today's standards.
Most all drives today are 7200 rpm or greater whether they are using the IDE or SATA2 interface.

But one thing you can do to speed up the process is to delete every junk file off of your HD before you start the backup.

As I've said many times before...... I keep my HD in FAT-32 format and I run Ghost from a DOS boot disk, completely bypassing Windows.
So, from batch files on my Ghost boot disk, I delete my huge pagefile, all my old restore points and all junk files on my HD.
* If I were using
Hibernate
, I'd be deleting the
Hiberfil.sys
file too. (another monster)

That reduces the amount of data going into my backup by around 4 gigabytes.  After this thorough cleanup, I can get my C: drive backup on a single DVD or 6 gig flash drive, using Ghost's HIGH Compression.

That doesn't come by accident...... Roll Eyes  I have to work at it a little. Wink
Keeping all your junk off of your C: drive is mandatory.

* A clean HD makes your whole system run better and helps keep the size of your Ghost Image files down too.

Happy 2009 Everyone!

Dude!

You're kidding, right?

Unless your HD is in FAT-32 format, you can't run cleanup batch files from your Ghost boot disk.  DOS batch files cannot even SEE an NTFS drive.

UNLESS, you first run "NTFS4DOS" to unlock the drive.  Then batch files work great!  I just did that last night on a little Dell that I'm refurbishing.
I wanted to clean up the drive, to the MAX, before ghosting it.
I have Ghost 2003 on a CD with NTFS4DOS on there too.
I booted up the PC, ran NTFS4DOS and then went back to my Ghost menu and ran all my cleanup batch files and then ran Ghost with FAST compression.  The size of the Ghost Image file was less than 4 gigs.
I could have easily put it on a single DVD, that is, if the PC had a DVD burner instead of that ridiculous "Combo" drive. Sad

You only have to be a computer tech for about one day, to learn to hate Dell.  Sorry Dell owners......nothing personal.

Y'all have a great 2009 now, y'hear?
